SkyDrive launched for the desktop in April this year and the Windows app got an update today. The most notable changes in this update are the new SkyDrive logo and a new status window feature. The update also adds new context menu options and improves performance and reliability.

The acquisition of Perceptive Pixel wasn't the only major announcement made at the 2012 Worldwide Partner Conference. Microsoft also announced that Windows 8 will Release to Manufacturing (RTM) in the first week of August, and will reach General Availability (GA) by the end of October.

Microsoft has announced that Windows 7, Vista and XP users will get an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for only $39.99 for the downloadable version and just $69.99 for the packaged DVD version. Windows Media Center can be added to the install for no extra cost.
