Microsoft's second BUILD developer conference to be held late October

Microsoft has announced that BUILD, the successor to MIX and PDC that was Microsoft's biggest developer conference of last year, will happen again in 2012. This year's BUILD will be a four-day event held on the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington from 30th October to 2nd November. The October 30 date places BUILD only four days after the launch of Windows 8.

Microsoft promises this will not be a dialed-down version of the 2011 event. "This will be unlike anything we've held on our corporate campus in a long time," Tim O'Brien, General Manager, Developer and Platform Evangelism, wrote on Channel 9.

While last year's BUILD was mainly all about Windows 8, this year there will also be a number of talks on Windows Phone 8, Windows Azure, Windows Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2012. And like any past Microsoft developer event, most speakers will be from the engineering teams directly responsible for the products they talk about.

Registrations for BUILD will open at 8 AM PDT on 8/8 (8th August) at buildwindows.com. That is also when details about the sessions and keynoters will be shared. '8' surely is Microsoft's favorite number this year, with even Windows 8's RTM build number rumored to be 8888.

At the previous BUILD in Anaheim, California in September 2011, Microsoft handed out Samsung tablets pre-installed with Windows 8 Developer Preview to all attendees. Will this year's attendees be lucky enough to receive a Windows RT Surface tablet?
